Another of Melbourne's main stay kava bars. This one in Suntree is like many of the other franchise's bars. It features a pool table and ping pong. The crowd is eclectic as is expected at Kava bars. Unlike other Kava bars in the area, being located in Suntree on the cusp of Viera, the crowd... here is more white collar and cerebral. If you've had a funky experience before at a kava bar, give it another try here. Lauren is a sweetheart and provides a warm welcome and great conversation. Connor is youthful and has cinematic knowledge beyond his years - he always gives me ideas for the next awesome movie to watch. His shifts are punctuated with great films on the TVs.read more

Island Root, especially the sun tree location, is a phenomenal place to get together with friends and decompress. Out of all the places I’ve tried kava and kratom, Island Root has the best variety and best tasting drinks. They have several nights where you can listen to live music, play in pool... and ping pong tournaments, and participate in trivia. The best quality of this bar has to be the service, the bartenders are always friendly and actively making sure you aren’t waiting on drinks or food, especially the Bartender Lauren. I know many people that make sure they go when she is working, and always have something nice to say about her. I would highly recommend Island Root to anyone looking to make new friends, find an alternative to alcohol, or to simply just get out of the house.read more

Home away from home! Island Root!! The absolute friendliest people, best bartenders, coldest Kava, and the best atmosphere! This place is the best! I highly recommend you try some Kava or a Nitro! If I wouldn’t have discovered Island Root I never would have overcome my alcoholism. Come get a shell!!

I usually visit the other Melbourne location so it was my first time coming here and it was okay. The service was disappointing, however the decor is welcoming and the pool table and board games in the back are a nice touch.
